Here you can find information on the coffee that Cooperative Coffees is importing, from picking and mulching the cherry to slurping and brewing a fresh cup.   The Green Committee seeks and evaluates new sources of great coffee, provides counsel to current producing partners on improving quality, and  builds stronger relationships with coffee cooperatives.

Roaster Information Exchange

New, Exciting Coffees

Here you can find information on cool new coffees that we are importing, or that we are looking into as an interesting additional supply source. Get perspectives from different members that have gotten an inside peek at the coffee, either in terms of the description and profile of the coffee itself, or in terms of anecdotal stories concerning the coops growing the coffee. These detailed accounts will hopefully get you feeling enthused and connected to the coffee you are purchasing. The better one understands the story of the coffee, the easier it is to get behind and sincerely promote it to the customer.

Check out the cup reports for our upcoming coffee from Rwanda, and read about the adventurous 2007 Cooperative Coffees travels in Mexico  as well as  Rwanda and in the Dominican Republic.

If you would like an overview of current and future sourcing travels check out the Green Committee travels 2007-2008 calendar.

This year, we have been unable to buy any coffee from the Mexican Cooperative Mut Vitz, with whom we had been working for several years. For more details, you can read this brief summary of the financial crisis that Mut Vitz had been going through this year.

Producer-Roaster Programs

An additional aspect of the green committee is to promote and organize activities that will provide technical support to coops, or improve their market access.

Last Fall, Cooperative Coffee supported FECAFEB with first-ever Bolivia Fair Trade  Quality Competition . See photographer, Gary Howe's Bolivia Essay on the Event.

We are also thinking about collaborating with FEDECARES in the Dominican Republic, on providing advice on alterations that might improve their quality control.

Every year, various members of Cooperative Coffees attend the annual SCAA conference, giving them an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with other leading actors in the field.  For a look at our most up-to-date schedule of activities and meetings for the SCAA 2007 click here.  If you would like a historical perspective on SCAA dynamics, check out last year's schedule.
