Coffee Talk

Deans Beans has partnered with a local Guatemala radio station to produce a weekly radio show dedicated to all things coffee. Heading down there any time soon? Let them know, and you can be a local radio star! Read on below for a description of the project in Dean's word:

Guatemala Radio Project

BoomboxD.jpg"As I have mentioned to some of you, I have been working with Cultural Survival to create a coffee radio program in Guatemala, for the indigenous radio stations that CS has been setting up all over rural Guatemala.

Well, we have arrived!

Beginning this week “Coffee Talk” will start airing out of San Pedro la Laguna, with a broadcast radius that takes it around Lake Atitlan. Originally, the show was going to be in Tzutuil, but because the other stations are so interested in this, they decided to do it in Spanish so it could be aired all over Guatemala.  It is a show by and for coffee farmers and the sponsor (since nobody else stepped up) is “Deans Beans Café Organico Comercio Justo”.

I talked to the guys running the station and asked if Coop Coffees members could be interviewed and come on the air to give the latest info from our coop and the movement, and they were delighted!

So, whenever anyone is going that way (Bill-practice that Spanish! Matt-another Just coffee delegation?  Michael-get Rigo down there! Willie F where are your guys?)  let me know and we will get you on the air.  We collectively have so much to share.  May the spirit of the Xela Accords thrive!

I am so excited about this project.  I think the impact will be enormous!  Pass this on to anyone who you think might be helpful in providing content."
