Women and Girls' Empowerment Fund

Pura Vida has initiated a women and girls empowerment fund.  Development studies have shown that the positive effects on a community by specifically targeting women can be vast.  Educating women will improve the health conditions of her family, and increase their income. Pura Vida have developed programs centered on three crucial areas, education, micro-lending, and health issues.

They are partnering with organizations that are already committed to breaking the cycle of poverty, by delivering services that tackle the issues most pressing to young girls and women.

 They are working with Cecocafen, our coop in Nicaragua, to put two programs together, one on scholarships for girls, the other on a women`s micro-credit program.

• Scholarships for girls:  The scholarships Pura Vida provides for girls are given for the pursuit of a high school education. The requirements asked of recipients is to give back to the cooperative by volunteering some of their time and effort, though passing on their knowledge by teaching others in their community, and helping the coop through the certification procedure
• Women's Microcredit program: There are over 320 female participants in this program offered through CECOCAFEN.  The micro credit schemes provide funds for income diversification, which in turns allows for more stable income and food security for their families.
