Sustainable Business Links and Ideas

Check out some of the tools being used by our members to strive towards low-impact business practices

Alternatives to Oil

The environmental and political impacts of using unlimited amounts of oil for transport is huge. Some of our members are seeking alternatives to oil-dependence in the course of their everyday activities.  Bike powered deliveries and biodiesel run vehicles are two main examples.peace van

Biofuel

Those that must travel further distances with bigger loads than bicycles or public transportation can allow, but that are still looking to stay away from oil, have found a solution in biofuel.  This is the use of vegetable oil to run a vehicle.  The car has to be altered such that it has two tanks, one for diesel, the other for biofuel.  The Diesel serves to warm the car up, after which it is possible to run the car purely on biofuel.  Check out these links from some of our members on the sources they get their biofuel from!

Other cool--non coffee related--stuff

Thinking about selling something other than delicious, perfectly ground coffee? Something that customers will be proud to display, both due to its chic-ness, and its socially aware conscious-ness?

Our members are providing cool, ethical products to sell to devoted coffee drinkers.

TShirts

These are a great way for your regulars to proudly display their affiliation...but of course, its a lot better if the shirts upholds the principles of fair trade.  Coton is now in the FLO system, and some young upstarts are selling fair trade certified clothing.
