Communications and Outreach
We take our Public Relations seriously at Cooperative Coffees. Whether it's participating in an allied group's conference, organizing a producer's tour in North America, or managing our own Annual General Meeting, good and constant communication is a indispensable attribute of our organization.

Alliance Building
We believe that the company we keep says a lot about who we are. A number of organizations help make our specific work possible while others have had a huge hand in building and supporting the Fair Trade movement in general. Take a look at the people and organizations that help make our work possible, and have helped build the fair trade movement from the ground up.

Events
Fair Trade Federation 2009 Conference...and 15th Anniversary!
The annual Fair Trade Federation conference offers an excellent opportunity for members of the North American FT movement and their international partners/allies to exchange useful experiences and information. This year's conference was particularly special as FTF launches into its 15th year anniversary in 2009! CoopSol's intern, Sophie Verdon was able to get the scoop in an interview with Carmen Iezzi, Exec. Dir of FTF. |

There's one more SCAA under our belt! This year, the event happened in Atlanta and brought together the usual suspects: everyone and anyone involved in the specialty coffee world. Following SCAA mayhem, Coop Coffees members, partners, and friends rode 3 hours, caravan-style, to Americus, Georgia for day of productive meetings, useful exchanges, and a fabulously fun soiree! Producer Tours

Here are a few examples...
While the rest of the Cooperative Coffees' gang headed back home and back to business-as-usual, the "party" had only just begun for our producer representatives. After witnessing and particiating in three intensive days of CoopCoffees' meetings, Don Rogelio and Oscar made their way to warmer territories: Americus, GA to spend a few days with the Cafe Campesino crowd and then Santa Rosa Beach, FL to take part in a number of activities alongside Amavida.
Rigoberto had quite the busy post-AGM schedule as well! He spent the week following the AGM with a couple of different groups associated with Catholic Relief Services -- a close ally of Cooperative Coffees. Flying to Chicago, then New York City, then back to Chicago and onto Madison, Rigoberto was quite the jet-setter in those few days. He wound up his trip with the folks at Just Coffee.
Coinciding with the Fair Trade Weeks, or La Quinzaine du Commerce Équitable, as it is known in Quebec, Cooperative Coffees organized a small producer tour that took place from May 6th to May 10th. Santiago Paz Lopez, the founding manager of CEPICAFE, a long time Coop Coffee partner based in northern Peru, visited several of our Canadian members to talk about his experiences in Fair Trade and his vision for the future of the movement. Or go straight to reading an in depth summary of Santiago's presentations.

Within the framework of the SCAA’s annual meeting and conference in Minneapolis in May 2008, three Cooperative Coffees members, Peace Coffee, Kickapoo and Just Coffee, organized a producer tour in the Mid-West. The purpose of this visit was to reduce the gap between consumers and producers by building relationships and understanding through roasters.

| Each year, members and staff of Cooperative Coffees gather for a couple of days of intensive -- in terms of both fun and efficiency! -- meetings, otherwise known as the Annual General Meeting. Aside from the updates on business, the meeting gives us the chance to get to know our fellow coop-members better -- a difficult feat considering the hundreds of miles between most of us! And this year we had the privilege of hosting 3 producer partners who visited a few of our roasters after the meeting! |
