Miguel Mateo in Florida 2009
With an early departure the morning after Coop Coffees' 10 year celebration in Americus, Miguel Mateo, Tripp, and Dave of Cafe Campesino took a road trip to Gainesville, FL for a tour of our most recently-added member Sweetwater. Miguel helped Tripp sample coffee and speaking with college students at the University of FL Gainesville's Earth Day event. After spending a bit of time with the folks at the roastery, Miguel headed eastward to finish up his tour in Santa Rosa Beach. As usual, Amavida organized several engaging activities for Miguel including radio shows, talks to Spanish classes at a local school, and cafe presentations.

At Sweetwater / Cafe Campesino...
"Miguel, Tripp, and Dave headed to Gainesville, FL the morning after the 10th anniversary party. We joined up with the crew at Sweetwater as well as our friends at Harvest of Hope, a foundation working to alleviate financial pressures for migrant workers and their families. We also attended the University of Florida's Earth Day event sponsored by the school's Office of Sustainability. UF's efforts to conserve more and “green up” their campus were quite impressive. Great strides are being made at the 2nd largest university in the United States. We wish them even greater success in the future. (And we hope that UF President Dr. Bernie Machen enjoyed the Sweetwater organic coffee that Tripp, Miguel, and Harvest of Hope's Ed Kellerman presented to him following his Earth Day speech.)"
At Amavida...
"Miguel was welcomed in the 30A and surrounding communities with Amavida Coffee in Seaside Florida. Miguel was featured on 30A Radio, a local FM broadcast company and spoke about his the coffee producer from Guatemala. Miguel also spoke to the Seaside Neighborhood School Spanish classes where he was well received by the student. There was lots of questions and interesting conversation in Spanish with the students. Miguel also visited many of the local business, coffee houses, and restaurants that serve coffee from Manos Campesinas. On his last evening, Miguel gave a presentation to a group called SWELL (South Walton Environmental & Low Impact Living). Here is the link to the article with Miguel."
