Committees

The heart of our cooperative's governance, policy and procedural work is the volunteer committee structure. All issues that confront our coop are screened by the question "Which committee is most capable of addressing the issue". Members of Cooperative Coffees are expected to serve actively on at least one committee and many roasters have 3 or more staff persons involved in the work of our committees.

Cooperative Coffees has three active committees, Green Bean Committee, Finance Committee, and Membership Committee. Coop Sol works with the Green Bean Committee. Below is a brief description of our committees and their primary responsibilities.

  • Green Bean Committee -  Addresses the issues surrounding Green supply,
Quality control, Producer relations, and Technical Support; actively participant in the development and strengthening of our relationships with producer partners; and helps to facilitate better understanding around green coffee and producer issues amongst our own roaster/members.

In relation to the Green Bean Committee...

Coop Sol works with producer partners to evaluate coffee supply, quality concerns, negotiating the contracts for import, and confirming all the logistical details involved with moving the coffee from port in the producer country to our warehouses in New York and Toronto. The Montreal office will also be spearheading special activities in collaboration with producer partners to improve coffee production and quality and to continue strengthening the health and stability of our relationships.

We are also responsible for gathering green needs estimates, communicating with roaster members any disruptions in supply, possible substitutions, delays or special purchases that might occur during the import season.

Producer visits – Help plan and coordinate Green Committee related visits to producer coops. Assist in the outreach to other members’ possibilities to travel with other roasters planning delegations, as needed.  Plan the “Producer Exchange and Workshops” during the Cooperative Coffees Annual Meetings.
