Unión Majomut

Unión Majomut is a cooperative of small-scale coffee producers in the Altos de Chiapas region. Its original mission was to improve coffee production, processing, and marketing for its members to enhance family livelihoods while protecting the environment.

Over its 40+ year trajectory of indigenous grassroots development, the organization has expanded its focus to support community development, including:

- Housing improvement and self-construction programs
- Strengthening basic grain production for food self-sufficiency
- Promoting women’s initiatives
- Establishing a small rural bank

The operational structure is governed by legal norms and the customs and traditions of the indigenous Tzotzil and Tzeltal communities within the organization. Today, it spans the municipios of Chenalhó, Cancuc, Tenejapa, Oxchuc, and Pantelhó.

Unión Majomut envisions a world where coffee-growing families can enhance their well-being through the sustainable production, processing, and marketing of organic coffee and other products. This includes ensuring food security, environmental conservation, democratic participation in organizational decisions, and the promotion of a culture of saving among small producer families.
